Barrel Pick Up

Barrel Pickup (aka Buddy Barrel Pickup) consists of a rider picking up a passenger off a barrel as the horse circles it.

  • A contestant may enter only one time In the class, either as a rider or as a jump man but not as both.
  • To be run with a barrel placed at least 20ft from the fence at the opposite end of the arena from the timers and the rider may ride to the right or left circling the barrel.
  • The starting (timer) line should be at least 20 feet inside the arena.
  • Jumper must mount from the barrel and must be astraddle of the horse at the finish line.
  • Jumper must mount unassisted. Use of rider’s hands to assist or steady the jumper at any time during the will result in a disqualification.
  • If jumper touches the ground, it will be a disqualification and he/she must exit the arena by foot.
  • Rider and jumper may be in any position or order on the horse at any time, as long as neither have touched the ground during the run, and they are both astride the horse at the finish line.
