Showing is one of the ways to highlight your and your horse’s accomplishments.  This section is dedicated to providing descriptions, rules, guidelines,  and tips for the various classes that Westark Horse Show Association has to offer.  The videos provided are for visual reference and educational purposes only.  Browse through to familiarize yourself with the different classes, you may find one you want to try!

English classes offered at Westark Horse Show Association shows are WalkTrot Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Under Saddle, & English (Huntseat) Equitation.  All English classes follow AQHA guidelines.  Videos are provided for visual reference and for educational purposes.

Gaited riding classes offered at WHSA shows are Light Shod Slow Gaited, Heavy Shod Slow Gaited, Mens Fast Gaited, Ladies Fast Gaited, Gaited Trail, Gaited Equitation, Gaited Reined Riding.  Rules and guidelines are available in the articles, videos have been provided for visual reference and educational purposes.

Westark Horse Show Association will have several different halter classes at the WHSA Horse Shows.  Ponies/Minis, Mule, Mare, Gelding, Stallion, Performance, Gaited, Speed, & Ranch Horse.  See each class for guidelines along with any restrictions.

For evaluation of any horse’s conformation, this video is very helpful and well worth watching.

Keep in mind when watching the video that conformation standards for different  breeds may deviate away from what is considered the ideal in basic form to function.  These variations are what give each breed it’s distinctive look and/or movement and should be respected as such.

Other classes includes Showmanship, LeadLine, Country/Sporthorse Pleasure.

Westark offers a full roster of speed classes – barrels, poles, speed race, stake race, barrel pickup, keyhole, and flags.  Most speed classes have at least a Jr (18yr/under) and Sr (19yr/over) divisions, some are further divided into pony and buckaroo.

Western (ridden) classes include western pleasure, horsemanship, reining, trail, and the ranch/stock horse classes – ranch horse pleasure, stock horse pleasure, ranch horse trail.  Brief descriptions, guidelines and rules are given for each class (or set of classes).  Videos have been provided where possible as an aid in understanding the rules of the class and for visualization of the class.  Many videos will be from shows on the national championship level for associations such as AQHA, APHA, ASHA, NRHA, etc…. and present the near ideal performance of the horse and exhibitor.
